Ballyconnell History

Ballyconnell , a beautiful town named after a legendary Celtic warrior, is nowadays making its own heroic efforts as a tidy town, prospering community and very desirable tourist destination.

Located in County Cavan, Ballyconnell lies astride the Shannon–Erne Waterway, sits at the foot of Slieve Rushen mountain and is a mile from the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The industry in the area is mainly agricultural, but it also has a large cement factory and a plastics factory. Tourism is an important part of the town’s economy with cabin cruisers using it as a stopping place when navigating the Shannon-Erne Waterway.
